Frequently Asked Questions
Before You Apply
1. Where is Nord Velet located?
Nord Velet is a home-based Maine Coon cattery in Northeast Ohio. For the privacy and safety of our family and cats, our exact address is provided to approved families when appropriate.
2. Is Nord Velet registered?
Yes. Nord Velet is registered with both the Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA) and The International Cat Association (TICA).
3. What kind of Maine Coons do you raise?
We raise Maine Coons from European lines, with a special interest in black smoke and silver coats. We select our breeding cats with attention to health, temperament, structure, pedigree, and how well they fit into our home.
4. Are your kittens raised in your home?
Yes. Our kittens are born and raised in our home, where they receive daily handling and become familiar with normal household sounds, people, routines, grooming, and litter-box use.
5. What health testing is performed on the parents?
Our breeding cats receive genetic testing and veterinary care appropriate to the Maine Coon breed. Available results are identified on each parent’s profile, and relevant health information is discussed with approved families.
6. What veterinary care do kittens receive?
Before leaving Nord Velet, kittens receive age-appropriate veterinary care based on their age and our veterinarian’s recommendations. Families receive the kitten’s available vaccination, deworming, wellness, and other relevant health records.
7. How much does a Nord Velet kitten cost?
Pet kitten pricing begins at $3,500. Final pricing may vary based on the kitten, placement terms, transportation, and any arrangements agreed to in writing. Current pricing and availability are shown on our Kittens page.
8. How do I apply for a kitten?
Begin by completing our kitten application. The application helps us understand your household, experience, preferences, and plans for the kitten. Submitting an application does not guarantee approval or reserve a particular kitten.
9. How are kittens matched with families?
We consider the family’s preferences along with the kitten’s personality, activity level, availability, and the type of home being offered. We want the placement to work well for both the kitten and the family.
10. Does submitting an application reserve a kitten?
No. An application is the first step in the process. A kitten is not reserved until the family has been approved and the reservation requirements stated by Nord Velet have been completed.
11. Are Nord Velet kittens sold with breeding rights?
Our kittens are placed as companions unless breeding rights are specifically approved and agreed to in writing. Breeding rights are not automatically included with the purchase of a kitten.
12. Do you allow declawing?
No. Nord Velet kittens may not be declawed. We are happy to help families with appropriate scratching surfaces, nail care, and other humane solutions.
13. Can a kitten be transported outside Ohio?
Transportation options may include pickup in Ohio, an agreed meeting location, ground transportation, or a flight nanny. Availability and cost depend on the destination and are discussed with approved families.
14. What happens if I can no longer care for my cat?
Contact Nord Velet before selling, surrendering, transferring, or privately rehoming the cat. The applicable requirements are explained in the sales agreement, and we will help determine the safest next step.
15. Will I receive support after bringing my kitten home?
Yes. We remain available to help with the kitten’s transition, feeding routine, grooming, introductions, and general care. Medical concerns should always be directed to your veterinarian.
16. Where can I see available kittens?
Current litter information, photographs, personality notes, availability, and pricing can be found on our Kittens page. Availability may change as reservations are completed.
